and it's okay
Hi, you. I hope you're here because you want to feel better.
I am so happy that you gave yourself a chance and gave me a chance to share my experience, thank you! Please remember I am not perfect, and it is okay if you're not too.
Today is Day 14 of Restriction Movement. Throughout the whole period of RMO, I do realize I am struggling a lot with my mental health. I've been having symptoms of anxiety and depression for a year, but sadly, I refuse to think that I am suffering from it. I get that sometimes you do too, and refuse to think this way because we were never taught much about mental health, thinking that it will never happen to us. Sadly, I do suffer from a lot of symptoms, and I think it is the time that I accept and seek for help.
I start to realize symptoms almost a year ago, where I get random panic attacks out of nowhere. My heart rate would increase, I have problems breathing, sweating for feeling numb all of a sudden. However, I handled it well in the past. I always take a rest, practice some self-care activities to make myself feel better. I am very proud that I got the hang of it. Life goes on but things got worse since I moved back home from Minnesota. I start to experience more panic attacks than usual, and I am trying my best to handle it the right way.
I've always wanted to share my thoughts and views on mental health because it's not something we hear about it every day. With my personal experience, dealing with mental health as a Malaysian Chinese, and as a Psychology student, there are many hardships. One of the hardships is that people around you do not understand how this works. Some might even think that you are just overreacting. But I can tell you, you're just human. It's normal. I am lucky enough to have people who understand. If you don't, I hope I can be the one. If you're happy and healthy, I'm so proud and happy for you! But feel free to stay, read, and understand more about mental health. I do feel like this is the time to start writing, as to journal out my thoughts and share it with others. I must say I might not be an expert but I am happy if I can help someone else.
If you think you are suffering from mental health issues like me, it's okay, it's normal, it is totally okay if you're feeling this way, you are definitely not alone. If you have someone you know suffering from mental health issues, please let them know it is okay to feel this way. Please do not tell them that they shouldn't behave like this or whatsoever. Just let them know that you're here. I understand that you might feel frustrated with all the negativity when someone is suffering, but I do hope you keep your frustration to yourself first and address it to them later, it might hurt. Here are some things that you can say, to someone who needs help.

My boyfriend has been dealing with my mental health issues for a while, and he gets frustrated sometimes. I do get hurt but I understand why he feels this way, If people around you are feeling frustrated with your mental health issues, remember that not everyone grew up with the knowledge of dealing with mental health, especially in Asian communities, it is common to see that people from the older generation do not make this a priority. I chose to educate him, let him know what hurts me and what I would like to hear, what I would like him to do when I am suffering. So educate them, let them know how I feel when he gets frustrated. I tell him what I would like to hear. I believe your loved ones are willing to listen, like how my boyfriend is willing too as well. I know it is harder for you if you're from a family or in an environment where mental health "does not exist", but always remember there are people out there who understand and you are definitely not alone.
I hope you feel better and I hope you find peace. Stay happy and healthy, if you are not it's okay. Take your time and you will be someday. Good Luck.
